Hey just a review on how well the South Ayrshire communication friendly team have made a difference on introducing communication boards around our local parks, food restaurants, leisure facilities and the big one Glasgow prestwick airport where we fly out of for our summer holiday every year. We come across the boards around where my father lives and where one of my daughters attends the local school. My twin daughters are autistic both delayed and one is non verbal attending specialist school. My daughters recognising symbols is an extra way for us to communicate when out in the areas which helps them learn to communicate in different ways, it also creates more inclusion for children/ adults who have language limitations, as anyone can use these.
My children are less frustrated seeing this tool used widely in the community and also I learn along with them. We see them regular at our local swimming pool for our swimming lessons and even used them at the local cat cafe which made everything a huge success. The team work incredibly hard on making this work and a big shout out to Jo and Claire who was my little girls speech and language therapist at nursery. This service is valuable to children and adults. I can’t explain how happy I am to see minority groups get recognised and supported in wider communities it’s been a long time coming.
Thanks.
"The team work incredibly hard"
