"Long waiting times"

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus) / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

The staff and consultant are excellent; polite and professional. However, in my experience  the whole system needs overhauling.

I have had cataract surgery in both eyes at this hospital. My experience at review has always been the same unfortunately. My last appointment was at 2.30pm. I arrived at 2pm and was seen by a very nice nurse at 2.15. After the eye test he asked me to sit in the waiting room when another nurse will call me.

At 4.15 a second nurse called. Again she was very nice. She measured the pressure in my eyes and inserted dilating eye drops. At 5pm I was the last person in the waiting room. The reception shutters had been pulled down. The consultant called me and apologised. I did not respond as this had happened exactly the same as my previous review after my first cataract surgery. I left at 5.20.

Having been last on the list, why did I have to be there at 2.30? An appointment at 4pm would have given sufficient time for the nurses to carry out their monitoring.

The first time this happened to me I complained to PALS whilst I was in the waiting room (again at 5pm). I did not receive an acknowledgment nor a response!

I would urge the management to look at and review the processes in this clinic and my advice to patients would be to take a book to read!
