"Not been listened to about my on going sickness and nausea"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / General medicine

(as a service user),

I've been really sick the last few days after travelling and an issue that always gets put down to severe gastritis has been causing me to vomit daily mixed with dizziness. This has been a problem I've been trying to get to the bottom of the last 10 years and nothing has ever come of it. It's really debilitating, affecting everything I do in life from work to socialising.

Whilst trying to explain all of this to the doctor I got the feeling they weren't taking any of it seriously and everything I suggested to help investigate the problem like different specialists, they dismissed them. I don't feel like the problem has ever been treated properly and I feel like it is usually blamed on me.

The last time I was in hospital with severe sickness the nurses in a&e accused me of drinking and I can 100% confirm that I had not had anything to drink. I also left there feeling like I was the problem. I really don't know what else I can do about this anymore and really would like to sit down with a doctor a have a proper discussion about possible causes and treatments.

Dear authentices59

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am really sorry to read of the challenges you continue to experience and for the distress that this has caused you.

Having that positive communication with Clinical Staff is key in being able to deliver safe and compassionate care and it is really disappointing to read that you have not been taken seriously. This is not what we would want any of our patients to experience and for that I am sorry.

I am not sure if you are still under the care of the hospital or whether your care has been transferred back to your GP. Perhaps booking a longer appointment with your GP to go through your concerns and worries may help with identifying possible causes and relevant treatment plans.

I will share your feedback with staff to reiterate clear lines of compassionate communication.

Thank you again and I wish you well.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn
