My dad was rushed to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, 4 weeks ago. He was having a stroke and my mum had recognised the symptoms immediately and quickly dialled 999. The ambulance arrived extremely quickly, and it only took them 7 minutes to arrive at the hospital with him. It was then discovered (once again, very quickly after he received a CT scan) that he had two clots on the brain and had to be taken to surgery immediately. He underwent a thrombectomy. The doctors made the borderline recommendation to go ahead with this procedure and my mum gave consent to give him the medication required. With all the quick diagnosis of the stroke and the quick decisions of the medical team, my dad was back sitting up, using his left hand again and seeing out his left eye again (both of which had been affected) within 11 hours of the stroke first being spotted/receiving surgery for the brain clot. Myself and my family cannot thank everyone involved and all the NHS staff support that was given to my dad during this distressing time for the whole family. He is continuing to improve on a daily basis and hoping to get back driving soon.
