"Adaptations at my son's residential home"

About: Countywide Community Care Service Delivery Unit / Housing, Adaptations and Specialist Equipment

(as a parent/guardian),

On behalf of our son, we would like to give the highest praise to Karen for the outstanding work she has done.

Karen’s knowledge is second to none in her profession. From the outset she took the time to communicate directly with our son, explaining her role in a way that was sensitive and mindful of his needs. She then engaged with staff to ensure a complete understanding of my son's circumstances.

During her assessment, Karen quickly identified the risks contributing to our son's injuries and made practical, effective recommendations. She was able to link these recommendations to the right providers and solutions, demonstrating both expertise and efficiency. Her attention to detail in ensuring our son's bedroom could be made safe was remarkable. Most importantly, she recognised the importance of out son being able to remove his helmet safely in his own room — giving him the freedom and dignity he so desperately needs.

We were also impressed by her professional integrity. Although we initially understood that Rhino products might be used, Karen stood by her professional judgement and recommended Premier Solutions, whose products she felt were more suitable. The matting was successfully fitted, and we are grateful that it can now travel with our son to his new placement.

Throughout the process, Karen has been kind, honest, and respectful of our son's personal space. She has shown genuine care and commitment to improving his quality of life. We feel fortunate that she has been involved in our son's journey and would highly recommend her to any family or service in need of expert occupational therapy.
