"Maternity wards"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital / Maternity The Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was in after having contractions from the night beforehand, I went into Norwich and Norfolk hospital, explained the contractions the pains and my concerns.

Delivery ward staff were amazing, then I was moved to Cley ward, where I felt ignored by the staff. Only one midwife fought for me, the care of myself and my unborn daughter, they checked in on both myself and my baby, checking how my pain was, monitored my baby to make sure she was still safe and happy and not in distress, they made sure I was comfortable and listened to.

However, some of the other midwives made me feel like a burden and a problem. When other midwives were on shift I’d be left for hours crying when my partner would press the call button it would take them more than 5 minutes to come then they’d tell me they’d be back with painkillers due to how much pain I was in because of the contractions and they’d not return until my partner pressed the call button again and asked again because we were still waiting over an hour after he pressed the call button the first time.

I had been on the cley ward for 5 days and I was still no further forward and I ended up discharging myself due to how ignored I was and how I was being treated.

My partner then moved my care from Norwich and Norfolk University Hospital to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn, where they made me feel valued, they listened to me, made sure I was comfortable and wasn’t in as much pain. They checked on my baby and made sure she was okay.

The midwife I had on the night time was absolutely amazing, couldn’t fault them at all, one of the best midwives I’ve ever met, they put their absolute all into making sure both me and my baby were safe. When I had my baby girl, I had an amazing midwife and a student midwife who you wouldn’t have thought was a student midwife with how amazing and professional they were.

The staff, the hospital, everything to do with Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn hospital is absolutely amazing. They care not just about the pregnant person or the baby but they also go above and behind for their partner too! Amazing hospital queen Elizabeth is.
