"I'm sure they will help many more families like us."

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

My dad has issues with his heart and had been feeling unwell.  We called NHS24 in June 2025 and explained the situation and they said they would send an ambulance, but after almost an hour no ambulance turned up and my dad's chest pain got worse so we had to call 999.

Within minutes an ambulance turned up with two lovely people, Phil and Aida who made my dad feel at ease right away.  They did the preliminary checks and transported him to QEUH and took us to the IAU.  They were reassuring on the way to the hospital and my dad said to them that he feels much better already and thanked them.  The ward was busy when they left us there and Phil said he would check up on us after their next journey to help someone, and he kept his word and came back to check on my dad a few hours later as we waited to see the consultant.  The overall care by Phil and Aida was excellent and these are the kind of people anyone feeling vulnerable and scared would want to see, they really do make them feel better psychologically.

There was a similar incident in December 2023 and the paramedics who came to the rescue then were William and Alexander, lovely and kind staff from the Scottish Ambulance Service.  I didn't express the gratitude back then but would like to do so now.

My dad and the rest of the family are grateful for the care received and would like to thank them from the bottom of our hearts and wish them well in their careers and I'm sure they will help many more families like us.

Thank you, William, Alexander, Phil and Aida.  You are all assets to the NHS.

Dear Tulsi,

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m really sorry to hear how things started out, but I’m glad Phil and Aida were able to bring such comfort and reassurance when your dad needed it most. It’s lovely to hear how they and William and Alexander before them made a lasting impression on your family.

If you’d like us to get this message to them directly, we’d need a few more details such as the name, date, time and address of the call out sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot so we can match it with the information in our system. Please also include your Care Opinion username so we can share your story with the crew.

Wishing your dad continued good health and thank you again for taking the time to write.

Warmest wishes,
Marie
