"Outstanding care despite very short staffing level"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Ophthalmology University Hospital Ayr / Vascular Surgery

(as a service user),

Admitted to Station 2 at Ayr Hopsital after an emergency opthalmology examination. Every staff member from domestic services, HCAs and RGN were all very friendly, respectful and helpful. The ward was spotless and there was constant cleaning being carried out, constant check ins with patients, lots of offers of drinks or any other comfort measures and I could get a sense of real team work and comradery within the staff. This made all the more poignant as it was noticed the severe under staffing they had.

Every staff member within that team should be very proud of the work they do given the extreme pressures they are forced to be under at times. My discharge did not go as planned due to timings of discharge drugs (which was out with ward staff control), however they went above and beyond to make a safe plan to facilitate discharge thus allowing me home to recover and aid flow within the hospital. The highest praise and admiration to them all, a credit to our wavering NHS system.
