"Staff using equipment for own needs"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Whilst waiting in Monklands A&E department, I saw staff members taking a wheeled chair from the A&E entrance to just outside the A&E doors, so that they could sit on it to have a smoke.

Not only should they not be smoking there, they ideally shouldn't be smoking around patients, and they definitely should not be taking hospital equipment to aid their comfort whilst doing so.

Dear ChronicallyPained,

Many thanks for taking the time to feedback on your experience at A&E Monklands. I am extremely disappointed to hear that staff members were not only smoking in a no smoking zone but using hospital equipment to do so. This is not the standard that I would expect and I would like to offer my sincere apologies to yourself.

You have taken time to describe your experience and I would like to look into this in greater depth. I would therefore be grateful if you would contact me directly; Marissa.morrison@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Sincere apologies,

Marissa Morrison
