"Outstanding service"

About: General practices in Fife

(as a parent/guardian),

My young son (5 years old) sustained a nasty injury and as a result required to have dressings applied. Our initial treatment was received at the minor injuries unit, and for my son, this was traumatic (he had never attended hospital previously for anything) and distressing. We were advised to have a follow up appointment with the nurse at our GP surgery 5 days later.

The day after, I visited the surgery to make the follow up appointment, I advised my son's bandage had fallen off overnight, and they immediately arranged for him to see the nurse in the surgery that day. Enter Emma, the most kind, patient and fantastic nurse I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! She reassured my son and made him feel completely at ease - a mammoth task following his distressing hospital visit! There was no rush to get him treated and on his way, she took her time, spoke to him and made him feel safe! Emma arranged to see him the following day again, and arranged 2 further visits for the following week to ensure the injury was healing well and check for any signs of infection - this far exceeds the required follow up 5 days later that was recommended.

Staff in our NHS don't always get the credit they deserve, and I truly wanted to make sure that Emma is recognised for the outstanding care and support she provided my son! She showed compassion, empathy and genuine caring towards him and it was so greatly appreciated!

Hello Cricketet53

My name is Shelley McBain and I am the Service Manager for Primary Care. I would like to thank you for taking the time to post this lovely feedback for Emma. The fact that you felt she was compassionate, empathic and caring is exactly what we strive to achieve in the NHS. I would like to pass your feedback to Emma, but am unsure by your post which GP practice you attended. If you could please let me know (either by responding to this post or emailing me directly (shelley.mcbain2@nhs.scot) and I will ensure Emma has sight of this.

Thank you again, and all the best for your sons future health.

Shelley
