My 17 year old daughter had had a cold for over three weeks and started to get bad headaches. On Saturday morning she went to her swimming club, but I had to bring her home as she couldn't carry on as the pain she was getting every time she did a tumble turn.
Clearly as a parent this is very worrying, so I sent in an online 111 form and within 30 seconds of submitting it (yes really 30 seconds), my daughter received a phone call from a nurse.
After some very careful questioning and great advice she made us an appointment at the hospital with an out of hours GP for an hour later; we had about 10 miles to travel which could have been a problem if we had no transport.
We arrived and were promptly seen by the doctor who gave her a good examination and said what we hoped, that it was just the dog end of the cold, and prescribed some antibiotics to help clear it up. We felt that the possible seriousness was quickly seen, prompt action taken and daughter and concerned parents properly looked after.
A brilliant experience.
