"Preferences taken seriously and felt completely safe"

About: Community midwifery care / North Belfast Maternity care / Delivery Suite Royal Jubilee Maternity services / Continuity of Midwifery Carer Service

(as a service user),

I cannot fault the Belfast trust continuity of care midwifery team. Everyone was lovely, reassuring and made me feel so at ease during my first pregnancy and birth.

Anna looked after me all through the pregnancy and ensured I was fully informed at every turn. Phoebe supported me through my birth. She stayed beyond her shift to deliver my baby and she was a cheerful and calming presence throughout - I am so grateful I managed to have the water birth I dreamed of. My preferences were taken seriously and I felt completely safe in her hands.

Postnatally I was cared for my Bronwyn and Phoebe and was so lucky to have familiar faces visit me and my baby. My only wish is that everyone has access to a continuity team like this - I credit them for how psychologically prepared I was, my enjoyable experience and my postnatal recovery. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Dear NB Mum,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback about your experience of receiving care within the Continuity of Midwifery Care Team (CoMC). I will share your kind words with your named midwife Anna and the whole CoMC Team.

Having a named midwife enables you to build trusting relationships, it ensures that you receive the same consistent information to make decisions around your birth preferences. Having evidenced based individualised discussions enables you to tailor your birth preferences to you and your pregnancy, this ensures that your decision making is support and facilitated by a small team of midwives.

Having a small team of midwives available for your labour and birth means that discharge back to community remains a smooth transition as the same team provide postnatal care to you and your new baby at home. This ensures that you feel valued, known and supported and again ensured that you receive the same consistent information, advice and supported during the postpartum period.

Once again thank you for taking the time to feedback about this service, service user feedback really highlights the importance continuing the growth and spread of CoMC Teams across Belfast Trust and ensures that all women have the opportunity to experience maternity services in this new model.

I hope should you choose to use maternity services again that you select to return to the Continuity of Midwifery Care Team. I wish you and your family all the best.

Kind Regards,

Susanne Thomas O’Boyle

Lead Midwife CoMC and Active Birth Centre.
