"The doctor did not listen to me"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I have recently had my first colposcopy because of cervical erosion and irregular bleeding.

During the initial consultation both myself and my partner felt that the doctor did not listen to me about my own concerns and jumped immediately to blaming my birth control method.

During the colposcopy nothing was explained to me and things were done without asking me first. My partner didn’t get to hold my hand and the doctor was very obviously not pleased about me needing him in the room for support. They made it clear they wanted him in the waiting room. I had to beg the doctor to use a smaller speculum, which again was dismissed but eventually agreed to. I was not listened to when i started crying and telling the doctor i was experiencing intense burning pain when the acetic acid was applied to not only my cervix, but my entire vaginal canal and around my urethra/labia minora. The doctor attempted to continue before asking if i wanted to stop.

My partner watched all of this happen with no idea what they were doing because again, none of the steps were explained to me. He could see that i was clearly in pain and unable to calm down, despite the doctor getting frustrated at me for this. I was dismissed with a prescription for estradiol with zero explanation other than my vagina is “too sensitive” and to come back in 6 months.
