"You guys rock down to electric avenue"

About: Leverndale Hospital

(as a service user),

I tell you now there are angels oot there and they do exist. Hear me now, I was admitted to hospital in an awful bad way. Barely eating, not drinking. A bit on the wacky thoughts side and trying to end it all.

The doctors told me that they were thinking of ECT. I don’t remember it too much. That’s one of the side effects and I was away with the fairies. That being said what I do remember is that is some of the best toast I’ve had in years and I’m doing better. Despite the worry it was gonna be like the films. Let me thank the wee lecky angels.

Thank you to Martin for calming me doon every time. You could calm doon the worst of folk a think. A proper lovely bloke who had all the time in the world and would chat away despite how busy he seemed. Always running about, definitely has running shoes on.

Thank you to Kathy, you joked about making the best tea. Well she fair did and done it with a smile and a friendly ear. She remembered the little things. What a gem of a woman. She had a warmth that would warm the polar bears wee hearts!

The wee nurse Kirsty who’s as fiery as her red hair. Thank you for the stories at my bedside and helping me recover. You have a true infectious laugh that I could remember hearing half awake. You show true passion for your job.

The nurse with the tattoos Jane, thank you for talking away when I was scared. You have a lovely nature and could sense when I was getting scared.  You had the most kind manner in my recovery. Even when I was a big girls blouse getting the stickers off.

I don’t want to keep rambling but thank you ECT, you saved my life.  You guys rock down to electric avenue.

Dear funnyzr47

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. Reading your words is incredibly moving, and we are humbled by the trust you placed in our care at such a difficult time in your life.

We’re so pleased to hear that you’re feeling better and that your experience of ECT, while understandably daunting at first, helped you on your road to recovery. It’s often a treatment surrounded by myths and fears, so your positive account will mean a lot to others who may be facing the same decision.

Your shoutouts to Martin, Kathy, Kirsty, and Jane had us all nodding in agreement. They truly are the heart and soul of what we do, and we’re thrilled they made such a difference to you — with tea, tales, calm words, and even help with the dreaded sticker removal (you’re not alone there!).

As for ECT, we know it can sound a bit like something out of a sci-fi film, but your story proves it can be life-changing — and life-saving. We’re so proud of you for taking that step, and grateful you’ve shared your experience in such an honest and uplifting way.

Kind regards

Kevin
