"My relative did not feel safe"

About: Leverndale Hospital

(as a relative),

I visited my suicidal family member on the ward. They sat down with me and stated they had been offered cannabis joints in the garden. Various other drugs and even cocaine. Staff said they are aware this happens but they cannot do anything.

My relative did not feel safe during their stay. They were being offered drugs freely in the garden going outside to smoke.

Since when in today’s society did we allow for drugs to go around a hospital!

Dear fornaxwz56

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are very sorry to hear about the situation your family member encountered during their hospital stay, and we understand how distressing this must have been for both of you.

The concerns you’ve raised—particularly around safety and drug use on hospital grounds are serious and concerning. Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients is a fundamental priority, and it is unacceptable for anyone to feel unsafe or unsupported during their care.

Your feedback will be shared with the relevant teams to ensure this is acted upon.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention and please pass on our apologies to your family member.

Thank you.
