My Husband was admitted to ward 5c at Raigmore hospital as a result of his 4th bowel obstruction in 5 weeks. He has terminal colon cancer that is aggressive and has spread throughout his abdomen including a narrowing of his small intestine causing the repeated obstructions.
Obviously it is a very distressing situation and my husband was in a lot of pain and aware should the obstruction not be medically treated surgery was not an option and it would be fatal.
We just wanted to recognise the nurse on ward 5c that day, Tara should be commended for her amazing work and going above and beyond, despite her significant workload, that day, for my husband. She was utterly professional and clearly highly capable and experienced but also was kind, empathetic, reassuring and caring.
Her actions ensured he was treated promptly and got home as soon as possible as per his palliative care plan. She also ensured we felt safe and valued throughout our stay on the ward. Her excellent communication skills and positive attitude really helped in a very distressing admission.
We also wish to thank the male healthcare assistant on duty that day, so sorry but I can’t recall his name for his equal kindness and support that day. Also the staff providing meals and drinks as they were so kind.
"The excellent care provided by nurse"
