"Positive maternity services story"

About: South West Acute Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I just want to say thank you to everyone who supported us with our recent pregnancy and birth.

I'd had a previous loss so this time I was very nervous and anxious throughout, probably hyper aware of reduced movements and bumps to my stomach needing the anti d jab. This was just a result of fear and anxiety following our loss. I wanted to do everything in my power to keep this baby safe, happy and healthy.

Any time I had a question or concern the staff I dealt with either midwives, FAU or maternity ward all reassured me and listen to my concerns. From consultants right down. Everyone was so understanding and I always left feeling better id been seen.

I met so many along the 9 month journey I dont have all their names so I want to say a blanket thank you.

When it came to the birth I want to thank Hannah & Claire who were with us throughout the night. Hannah listened to my wishes and tried to fulfil them where it was safe to do so. Claire went and got us a speaker for music to be played through which was so helpful. The 2 ladies were so calm and supportive throughout.  They really were fantastic and a pleasure to have with us. Thank you both ladies.

I really hope this feedback gets back to all the teams. We are so lucky to have our maternity services in the SWAH and a fantastic team running them. Thank you all.

The only constructive feedback from the journey was around appointment times in the community midwives dept. They were only allocated 20mins per patient but often routine appointments could run on to nearly an hour because they had to navigate a new system and try to deal with whatever arose in the appointment.  This often lead to big delays for those waiting.

The ladies were doing their best but not given enough time to spend with each individual which was difficult for everyone. Just feedback on the experience to help staff and patients going forward.

Thanks all

Dear starbk84,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby, I hope you and your family are all doing well.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your comment,s of the care you received during your pregnancy journey.

I am delighted to hear that you felt so well supported and reassured during the antenatal period and birth of your baby. It is lovely for staff to hear that the care they provide has been so well received. I will ensure to share your feedback with the wider Maternity team.

With regards to your routine antenatal appointments and the delays you experienced, I want to apologise for this. As you have stated we have recently moved to a new electronic system and the transition did cause some delays in our appointments, as we navigated to this. As we have become more familiar with the system, I feel that our clinics are experiencing less delays, however I appreciate that there are a lot of things that can arise to an individual's appointment, that may cause a delay to other ladies appointment times. Please be assured that we continue to monitor this and strive to adhere to appointment times as best we can.

Please accept my very best wishes to you and your family.

Kind Regards

Ali Ferguson
