"Everything went incredibly well"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Colorectal surgery & stoma care Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a service user),

Due to other medical issues I was unable to have my hip replacement surgery in April 2025.

It was discovered that I had Colon cancer which had to be dealt with first. That was a very successful operation and my recovery was quite rapid. I was then placed on a waiting list for my hip surgery which was cancelled due to trauma cases.

Finally I was given a new appointment for the second half of Sept 2025 and everything went incredibly well. I am now at home and recovering.

Thanks to all the teams who have dealt with my care I couldn't have asked for better.

I am responsible for monitoring overall service delivery, and the day to day running of both departments. I work closely with the Orthopaedic Consultants, Radiologists, Therapists, Trauma Nurse Practitioners, Orthopaedic Practitioners and Nursing staff to ensure cohesive care is delivered. I am very fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff, who work extremely hard to ensure patient safety is maintained, and that clinics run as smoothly as possible.

Dear Cosmo1,

I am so very sorry to hear that you have experienced complex health issues this year which required your Hip replacement surgery to be postponed until recently.

I am however, very pleased that you are making a good recovery from all surgery undertaken, and that you are satisfied with the care provided by both the colorectal and Orthopaedic teams.

I will ensure that your positive feedback is shared with the Hip team and Orthopaedic services involved in your care/recovery, and I hope that you are back to all activities of daily living in the near future.

Kind regards,

Julia King

Dear Cosmo1

I was sorry to hear that you have had a torrid year with the diagnosis of colon cancer and your hip surgery had to be postponed.

I would like to thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of our colorectal service. I was pleased to read that your surgery and recovery have been very positive and you were also able to go ahead with your hip replacement surgery. We are extremely proud of the services here at RDUH and it gives the team a real boost when we read positive experiences. I will ensure to share your feedback with the clinical and admin teams

Best wishes
