I have suffered with chronic pain for years - since starting my period. I have fought extremely hard for the past 5 years to be listened to in regards to my period pain and heavy / irregular periods. Finally admitted to gynaecology a year ago, one appointment and laparoscopic surgery later I was immediately discharged. Adhesions were found however no other evidence of endo / gyno issues so that was the end of my care, despite still having to live with the same pain and issues.
Called the gynaecological department recently to be told that there’s no clinical evidence that anything is wrong with me and so it must be unrelated to gynaecology. Despite explaining that my pain is linked to my period and has been for the past 13 years. That I now spend 3 weeks of the month bleeding heavily, in excessive pain and constantly taking over the counter pain meds. Been told to go back to the GP once again as it could be another issue, but I know in myself that it’s linked to my menstrual cycle.
I have never felt so dismissed and invalidated in my life. I have spent 5 years fighting for care to then get it ripped from under my feet because there’s no clinical evidence - made to feel as if it’s all in my head. No second opinion, no treatment for my pain.
My wish with being referred to gyno was that I’d have one person in charge of my care and I wouldn’t have to re-explain my issues to every new clinician I meet, to say I’m deflated is an understatement.
