I was diagnosed by my GP several years ago with IBS and have suffered terribly with it and was on 6 tablets a day which still did not control it. I asked my GP to refer me to Dietetics to do the FODMAP to try and find out what foods if any where triggering it as it was so bad and at a price t were I would try anything.
After my fist visit with the Dietician Lynn she thought my issue was not IBS but a condition called BAM (bile acid malabsorbtion) which I had never heard of before and asked my GP to prescribed colestyramine satchets twice a day. Within a day and a half all my IBS symptoms had gone it was amazing and life changing after suffering for so long.
I am now on the correct medication daily and monitored once a year but I would say to anyone has suffered as I have and did not get relief to ask your GP about BAM.
I would also like to thank Lynn in the Dietetic Team for her help.and support.
