I have used the Somerset Community Mental Health in the past 2 or so years. After years of struggling with emotional dysregulation I was offered to do DBT for a year. First off, I had no idea about the emotional dysregulation, but my Psychiatrist was able to pinpoint this. Dr Sudard I believe is her name. She was very kind and empathetic and had me working with a trainee Psychiatrist to see if DBT was the right option for me.
Then I was referred to DBT where I spent 4weeks with a therapist assessing if DBT was the right option. My therapist, Celia was great, she was kind gentle and empathetic. She supported me through DBT alongside other therapists who did online group sessions teaching on emotions. Ruth, Maddie and Caroline brought a perspective which helped me to pinpoint the root of the emotional dysregulation. It's been such an amazing journey, like a winning the lottery type of event. I have learnt a lot of skills which are helping me to regulate my emotions so I don’t feel overwhelmed.
Before all this, I had struggled so much and overdosed with medications at least 5times in a space of 5years. I am so grateful to the whole mental health team. I was treated with such respect and dignity throughout.
"It's been such an amazing journey"
