"How it feels to be on the ward"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Coronary Care Unit (CCU)

(as the patient),

I have never been in a ward that has treated me like this until now

1) no shower? I have been on the ward 3 days and denied a shower due to there not being a working shower

2) no privacy curtains getting opened without asking if I am decent

3) not kept updated

4)not listened to

5) staff members making personal phone calls in the bay and texting but when asking for painkillers it takes hours?

6) refusing to let me walk when it’s agreed with the consultant for me to walk

This ward has made me feel stressed, dirty and it’s made me feel like I don’t deserve to be treated, to the point I have asked to discharge myself.

Dear oriorrr36,

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. I am sorry to hear that this was the experience you had, and I would like to reassure you that I will bring this to the attention of the SCN and this will be shared with the ward staff in order to improve our service. We strive hard to deliver the highest standard of patient centred care and appreciate that this was not your experience. We would welcome further communication with you to discuss in more detail. Please reach out via email to arrange a suitable time.

Email contacts:
Claire Ganner@nhs.scot or Lisa.taylor8@nhs.scot.

Thank you.
