"Made me feel relaxed and comfortable"

About: Maternity care / Midwife Led Unit

(as the patient),

I spoken with a Midwife from Midwife Led Unit thinking it was possible my waters were leaking in which asked me to go in to be checked over. As we got to MLU we were taken to a room and explained how they would check to see if that’s what I was experiencing. This turned out to be a false alarm, but the midwife named Gillian who was in to see is most of our time at MLU was so comforting and reassuring. I worry and over think a lot, but she made me feel so much more calm. Sometimes with pregnancy symptoms you feel silly for phoning but always best to because anything is possible, but she made me feel relaxed and comfortable and made sure I didn’t feel silly with how I was feeling with my symptoms. I’ve had experiences where midwife’s can come across intimidating and over powering, but when you come across someone like Gillian you wish that all medical staff could be like her.

So thank you Gillian for being you and being kind, it’s people like yourself that are remembered. X

Good afternoon talonhe56,

If there are things we are unsure of or something is playing on our mind, then there is never a 'silly' question' and I would always, always wish that people would call us. If we can alleviate fears or just provide clarity then perfect, if we think you need to be seen then that's the advice we would recommend. We are here for the care and information you need. I am so glad you didn't sit at home and worry unnecessarily.

I am glad this was your experience when contacting the Midwife Led unit and would wish this each and every time. I will share your feedback with Gillian and I am positive she will be tickled pink that you have taken the time to recognize her work in this way.

I am grateful for all feedback and I am sorry you have had occasions where midwives have came across as over powering.. If this ever occurs again please share this experience with me also, as I wish your experience with Gillian to be one for every woman every time. We can only work and strive to achieve this and take action when it is highlighted we have maybe fallen short sometimes.

Thank you again for your kind words
