"My recovery worker inspired me"

About: Inclusion Recovery Hampshire / Havant

(as a service user),

My personal journey didn't really begin until I hit rock bottom. You get to the point where you can't live life the same anymore and you are fed up with feelings your stuff in a black hole. My relationship with my daughter was strained and her behaviour at school was getting bad. My motivation to get well was to show my daughter there must be a brighter future for us both so I reached out for help.

The guidance from the Orion centre awoke new awareness into my habits, triggers and gave me the courage to look into my childhood. Although there were some very dark moments, with support and my new own inner strength/determination I have not only overcome an addiction but I built a new me. I finally took responsibility for my life choices and made small changes little by little. My recovery worker inspired me to enrol on a level 2 counselling course to better understand myself. I then got a thirst for learning about behaviour and I am also now qualified in mental health within the workplace and I am currently working through level 3 in counselling.

I now frequently partake in meditating and journaling because I believe we need to put our own needs and peace first sometimes. I am evidence that mental wellbeing is possible if you put in the hard work. We owe it to ourselves and our loved ones. The relationship with my daughter has improved, along with her behaviour at school. I am finally at a point in my life I am happy with who I am and what I have to offer and with this new knowledge, I hope I can inspire others.
