"Care for my autistic grandchild"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Day Surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

As the grandfather of a highly vulnerable young lad who is neurodivergent, any visit to a facility hosting the general public is often viewed with concern.

He is hypersensitive to noise and can easily become overwhelmed so the prospect of attending hospital for invasive surgery can be fraught with anxiety not only for the procedure but also for the time spent from the first step walking in to the hospital to the moment at which the general anaesthetic kicks in and allows blessed escape.

Not so at Stobhill Hospital though, met by Morag we were quietly led to a section of the day ward set aside specifically for him and isolated from background noise.

From there on in my grandson was given preferential treatment which private health care has failed to match.

Numerous members of staff were involved in his care including but not limited to his anaesthetist; consultant surgeon and personal attendant Adi.

Each and every member of staff involved in his care was outstanding and a credit to their profession.

On his behalf I wish to thank everyone in the day surgery unit that day.

Kind regards

Papa

Dear Dr Dougs

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your moving account of your grandson’s recent experience at Stobhill Hospital.

We understand how challenging hospital visits can be for neurodivergent patients and their families, especially when sensory sensitivities and anxiety are involved. It is truly heartening to hear that from the moment you arrived, your grandson was met with care, understanding, and tailored support that helped ease what could have otherwise been a very difficult day.

Your kind words about Morag, Adi, the anaesthetist, the consultant surgeon, and the wider day surgery team will be shared with them directly and with hospital management. Recognition like this means a great deal to our staff and reinforces the importance of compassionate, patient-centred care.

Thank you again for your generous feedback. We wish your grandson a smooth recovery and all the very best for the future.

Kind regards

Kevin
