After a nasty fall just before Christmas, I was an outpatient at the Physiotherapy Department at Lagan Valley Hospital and the Occupational Therapy Department at the Ulster Hospital. The aim was to improve strength and mobility in my hand and wrist having broken my wrist during the fall. The care and support I received at both departments was excellent. I was never kept waiting, my appointments were never cancelled. The expertise and creativity of the staff was excellent in providing exercises and activities that would help to improve the movement in my fingers and wrist.
I must also say that the initial care I received in Lagan Valley fracture clinic was also excellent. I felt that I was supported, not just for the physical injury but as we went along, a check up on my mental health was also a priority. I attended physiotherapy for 6 months alongside hand therapy and I was amazed at the guidance and support that was given to me. Setting goals and targets to aim for was brilliant and once again the professionalism of the staff was second to none. In today’s society, it is very sad that we hear more negativity than positivity about our health service. But this is one of those stories where the positives are very clear. This was very much a team effort to get me back on track again and I am very appreciative of the hard work, the care, support and expert guidance I received. Using the My Chart app was brilliant too, keeping a record of visits and reminding me of new appointments. So, in light of this, I want to say how grateful I am to all of the health care professionals I met over the last 6 months, for the continuity of care I received, the support and guidance, thank you!!
