Firstly the outcome of this first consultation with Cardiology Crosshouse around mid September 2025 has given me my confidence and the hope back to return to my 'previous life' before the Arrhythmia in November 2023
It was such a good experience from the start, the staff who received me first for the BP check and weight, and then the nurse who took my ECG.
I usually try to note their names but I think on this occasion I was too nervous for the importance of this consultation.
From the check in person, I'm not sure if they are admin or nursing staff, there was humour and the personal touch from the start, this carried through the two nurses mentioned above, and into the consultation.
Dr Dobson was clear, understanding, listening to my responses, and questions, answering them with clarity and concern for my overall well being, and not just my heart.
I left feeling very confident about the ICD procedure, as I had gone for the medication option in the first instance, never having invasive surgery, if you don't count the two stents.
Dr. Dobson has negated that 'fear' if you like, that concern I had previously has now vanished.
The added bonus too is as I haven't had an arrhythmia, recorded or assumed, for 22 months now.
I have felt very anxious about going out solo, in case an arrhythmia did trigger a cardiac arrest, as I had been informed was a serious risk, so I am looking forward to the ICD procedure now, to gain freedom of m9vement without risk again.
I am told that I will be able to resume driving, in safety for all, in due course, as long as there are no further occurrences, or symptoms to indicate it is not safe for others, and myself to do so. That is a very important consideration.
The ICD, I understand, will be monitored remotely, as we have broadband now, so that will ensure the safety of myself, and others, at all times. It is very important to me that my actions throughout all aspects of life, don't affect others.
Thanks to the words of Dr. Dobson, I am now looking forward to returning to my pre-arrhythmia volunteer positions in the New Year sometime. Alongside my new role, currently using Mybus, all which would benefit from my ability to drive again.
This is only the start of this particular story, as the ICD procedure will come in around 12 to 15 weeks time. My hope is that all being well the re-issued license will follow.
