"Long term PTSD Therapy"

About: Forth Valley Community Services / Psychological therapies

(as a service user),

I was sexually assaulted many years ago, and in simple terms have never quite recovered. I experience fairly regular flashbacks and constant nightmares which seriously limit the things I can do.

A variety of therapies and medications have unfortunately failed to resolve those issues, and over time I have become quite profoundly depressed at the increasingly narrow scope my life has assumed.

My psychotherapist at Forth Valley Adult Psychological Services, stopped my slow slide in abject despair, did what she could to address the PTSD symptoms, and when that proved less than wholly successful was able to work with me to focus on building the best sort of quality of life I can achieve given the constraints of my condition.

I can't properly articulate the degree to which she's helped me, with kindness and sympathy. In grand terms, the material realities of my life have not changed, but the shift from simple misery to making the most of my situation and trying to find contentment where I can is a profound psychological shift - whatever quality of life I have I owe in large part to her efforts.
