"I had a very severe overdose"

About: Children & Young People Mental Health / Crisis Team

(as the patient),

Cat (my allegated worker) worked extremely well to ensure I was safe, healthy and had strategies to help if I was ever in a situation like that again.

She ensured there was a sleep hygiene routine, a vase method, which is where everything gets too much and we work alongside it to relieve some of the pressure.

As well as this, we did a breathing exercise method to help with my PTSD and panic attacks, and to calm myself down if, again, I was in a situation where I felt overwhelmed and anxious. We did the 5,4,3,2,1 method where we made sure we could do 5 things we could see, 4 things we could feel, 3 things we could hear, 2 things we could smell and 1 thing we could taste. This is a very good method as it helps distract yourself from a stressful situation.

Cat is a credit to your team and I aspire to be half the woman and worker she is when I am older. Your a very lucky company.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience on your recent interaction within the crisis service. It’s wonderful to hear how Cat worked with you in such a person-centred way, focusing on what mattered most to you, your safety, and your wellbeing. The strategies you’ve described, like the sleep-hygiene routine, the vase method, breathing exercises and the 5,4,3,2,1 grounding technique, show a clear commitment to empowering you with practical tools you can use in real situations.

It’s clear from your words that Cat took time to understand your individual needs and worked alongside you rather than for you, a hallmark of truly supportive practice. Your recognition of her impact, and your aspiration to follow in her footsteps, speaks volumes about both the quality of her support and your own resilience and growth.

We’re genuinely grateful you’ve shared this feedback. It helps ensure the support we as a crisis service provide remains centred on each person’s strengths, goals and preferences, just as Cat has modelled so well.
