"Undergoing a cataract operation"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Cataract Unit

(as the patient),

I attended the outpatients at QMH in Dunfermline and would like to share my experience of the cataract unit.

From the moment I entered the unit I was made to feel relaxed. The receptionist was just so friendly and helpful, Then when I was taken through to pre op, Helen and all the nurses in there did their upmost to put all the patients at ease.

They explained to everyone in there exactly what they were doing and what to expect... really made me feel relaxed. Spoke to us not at us, no matter our varying ages.

I was also very cold going into the theatre and when asked about being cold, a member of staff brought me a heated blanket. This was so welcome as I was very tense with cold and nerves. I was then able to relax and listen to the doctor, who did such a wonderful job with my op which was a bit more intense due to my congenital cataract condition.

Danielle and the other theatre nurses were also amazing.

I cant thank all the staff enough.

Now I wish to address the Senior managers at QMH :

Please please please revisit the work your nursing staff do.. They are amazing people .. kind and understanding... friendly, caring, singing, happy.. whilst being professional at all times.

They perform their duties above and beyond what’s expected...without them there Is no NHS.

I do hope this is seen by all staff and thank you all again.

Dear induspj66,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the Cataract Unit at Queen Margaret Hospital.

We are pleased to hear that you felt well cared for throughout your visit. It’s encouraging to know that the team — from our reception staff to the nurses and theatre team — helped you feel at ease and communicated clearly during your procedure.

We are glad to hear that small touches, such as being offered a heated blanket, made a positive difference to you during what can be a stressful time.

Your comments regarding the dedication and professionalism of our nursing staff are appreciated and will be shared with both the team and senior management. Recognition from patients helps highlight the value of their work and the impact it has on patient experience.

Best wishes

Stacey
