"Mums final days"

About: Adult Health Services / District Nursing Care and Support (Commisioned Providers) / Ardgowan Hospice

(as a relative),

I wanted to share the story of the care my mum received in her final week . All the teams that were involved in getting my mum home from hospice and ensuring that as a family we felt supported were fantastic and no words can express how grateful we are for the amazing care my mum received . As a nurse myself I was allowed to be the daughter and felt reassured that mum was well cared for by all the community teams involved .

The care she received was patient centred and everyone took time to listen and support the family.

My mum was in ill health for a while and required care to support her to be at home and this service allowed us to feel safe that mum was getting the best of care, she enjoyed her visits and spoke very fondly of the girls that came in.

When mums health deteriorated she spent a few days in hospice where the care she received was top class when we knew mum was near end life we took her home and the hospice ensured that this transition went smoothly as possible and we were supported daily by the amazing community Palliative care team in the hospice .

The palliative carers and district nursing teams who cared for my Mum in her last days were fantastic and I will forever be grateful to them for allowing us as a family to be with mum at home in her final days and make precious memories. This was her wish and we would not have been able to do that were it not for the amazing teams that deliver care at home to people in Inverclyde at end life.

I think that we are very fortunate in our area to have such dedicated professionals working 24/7 to give gold star care to our community and my family thank you from the bottom

Of our hearts ♥️

Firstly, I am sorry to hear about your mum's recent death. I hope that you are surrounded by care and love at the moment.

Thank you for taking the time to write your care opinion. I am glad that both the community and ward teams at Ardgowan were able to provide care and support for your mum, and I am happy that we, alongside our colleagues in District Nursing, were able to provide just what your mum and family needed. I love that you had a bit of time at the ned of your mum's life to be around her and create wonderful memories. May they sustain you and your family considerably over the next few months.

I will make sure I pass on your comments to both teams.

Take care

Graham (CEO, Ardgowan Hospice)

Dear Angry Family

I am so sorry to hear of the death of your Mum, please accept my condolences to you and your family.

All of our nursing teams across Inverclyde work hard to support patients and their families at the end of life and to ensure that people get home if that is where they wish to be. It is lovely to hear that your Mum's wishes were met and that the support and care she and your family received was so beneficial to you all.

Thank you so much for sharing this heartfelt feedback with us at this difficult time, it really means a lot to us. I will ensure that our nurses are all made aware of your feedback and the difference they made to you all, this will be very much appreciated.

Thank you so much again,

Laura Moore

Chief Nurse
