3rd pregnancy under the care of midwives in Peterhead. I was fortunate enough to give birth to all 3 of my children at the birthing centre which is an alternative to ARI hospital that we are so lucky to have up here. It is a maternity unit which is Midwife led.
I wasn't sure if I was having contractions or not at 39 weeks pregnant and happened to call the Peterhead mat unit at 1am. As I had given birth there previously and was known to them they asked me to come in and being 4cm dilated they kept me in rather then send me back home as my previous births had been so quick. I ended up being there for 12 hours as my waters didn't break and nor was I progressing past 6/7cm.
Natalie the midwife who took over on the morning shift was very good, always making me aware of what they recommend but also reminded me that it's my choice and I didn't have to do anything I was comfortable with. They made sure they offered me tea/food to keep my energy up encouraged me to move around but also rest. Worked with me to help progress things and only intervening when I asked her to. She was very hands off and reassuring when giving birth and also after care once I gave birth was amazing, I wasn't rushed, I was left to take my time and Midwives were amazing and helped through the night so I could rest and recoup.
Becca was my midwife throughout the pregnancy and she took great care of me. Even after with babies weight gain I had multiple visits from lots of Midwives and I always felt like they were rooting for me and encouraging me in my early days with a newborn. I can't thank them enough for the level of care I got from them and feel very fortunate.
