"The staff were brilliant"

About: Plastic Surgery & Burns / Plastic Surgery Day Case Area

(as the patient),

I recently had a suspect mole removed at the Plastic Surgery Department at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. The staff were brilliant and all went well.

Pathology revealed that it was a melanoma and I was invited back for a Wide Local Excision of the mole site. This was carried out by Rorie and his wonderful team.

I am delighted to say that the wound has healed very well and the scar is very neat. I have another couple of moles that have been photographed and will be monitored for any signs of change.

The whole thing began when my wife noticed that a mole on my shoulder had changed colour and I returned the compliment and checked her and she too has a couple of suspect moles and these have been photographed and now subject of further enquiry.

Thank you, once again, to all the staff at the Plastic Surgery outpatients at Ninewells Hospital.

Dear Steeb,

My name is Mary and I'm the SCN for the Plastic Surgery OPD. Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it’s both moving and reassuring to hear how well you were cared for with our team here in Ninewells Hospital. I’m really glad to know the melanoma was caught and treated promptly.

It’s also good to know how this experience has sparked awareness for both you and your wife. Skin checks are extremely important and can at times be life-saving.

I wish you continued good health, and I hope the monitoring of your other moles brings peace of mind. Thanks again for highlighting your experience, I will be sure to share this with everyone involved and the wider team.

Kind Regards

Mary
