My husband presented at 12.30pm to the emergency department in Antrim Area Hospital last Wednesday with chest pain; he was taken through pretty quickly and the necessary investigations carried out. The blood results showed that he had had a small heart attack.
He was given Aspirin and admitted at 7 pm onto the coronary care unit. The next day he was transferred to the RVH by ambulance and on the Friday he had a stent inserted for a blocked artery.
My husband was home two days after admission. The cardiac rehab nurse has been in contact for advice and education.
From the receptionists in ED, the emergency department staff, radiographers, porters and ancillary staff, the nurses and doctors in coronary care and the RVH staff and the paramedics, his care was excellent. He felt reassured and in good hands during such a stressful experience- We are truly grateful to all involved in his treatment and care.
