"Difficulty in swallowing"

About: Adult Acute Speech and Language Service / Speech and Language Therapy FEES Service

(as the patient),

I had a FEES appointment to examine my problem swaliowng after I had a stroke in 2019 which affected my swallow and then I had to have a peg inserted to my stomach to feed me. The peg was then removed after 2 months as I had learnt how to swallow again.

During the last year swallowing became difficult again with things getting stuck in my throat. Hence I had the Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow by 2 charming Acute Speech and Language therapist. They explained clearly what the procedure was and told me that my problem was all related to my stroke and that I had to be very careful with the size and type of food that I eat. I now have an appointment with a Speach Therapist to help me with my swallowing.

This service is very good and I would say that anyone that is advised to have this procedure to have it as there is very little discomfort with it.
