"Antenatal Clinic"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Maternity Care (outpatients)

(as a relative),

Attended several times to NVH antenatal clinic. Unfortunately very limited appointments available meaning that we never met same midwife. My wife had iron levels checked and these were missed. She in fact had iron deficiency anaemia and this was only picked up 6 weeks later - explains why she was very feeling tired! The midwife we saw was very apologetic and we understand mistakes happen. Advised to attend GP to get prescription for oral iron. I don't understand why a prescription request was not put in by midwife (this facility exists) and instead my wife had to wait a week for GP appointment to get an already delayed treatment. Or easier, oral iron can be provided by midwife under PGD. This is a really common issue in pregnancy so do not understand why the clinic does not offer this as it would reduce workload on GP, expedite treatment and reduce number of journeys people are having to take in late pregnancy.
