"My mum and her dementia journey"

About: Edenderry Dementia Day Centre Memory Services / Memory Clinic

(as a carer),

Mum was diagnosed with dementia just over 3 years ago through the memory clinic at Edenderry. Mum was assigned a Social Worker who is an absolute gem. The Social Worker arranged for mum to attend Edenderry Dementia Day Centre, which was initially for one day per week. Gradually it increased to 4 days per week. The day centre was a blessing to us and took a lot of pressure off both my husband and I. It would be even better if the centre was open on Bank holidays. The staff are very professional and show a lot of empathy  to both client and carer. They are an amazing team. Truthfully we could not without them.

Mum has been discharged from the Memory Clinic which i am not happy about.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your comments regarding your mum's social worker. I am delighted to hear that the day centre has helped to support you and your husband. If there are supports required on public holidays please discuss this with your mum's social worker.

When a client is open to a community team and settled they will be discharged from the Memory Clinic. This is due to alternative pathways for clients to be discussed and reviewed if required by the medical team. If, however you feel your mum needs reviewed by our medical colleagues please discuss this with your mum's keyworker who can discuss this with the team.

kind regards

Dear Carer,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments about your mum's day care placement. I'm really pleased to hear that she is enjoying the extra days at Edenderry Day Centre, and that both you and your husband have found the arrangement supportive. I'll be sure to share your kind words with the staff - they will be delighted to know their efforts are appreciated. it means a lot to us to hear that the team is making a positive difference for both service users and their carer's. We'll also note your feedback about Bank Holidays.

Kind Regards

Joy Walker
