"Post diagnostic support"

About: Children & Young People Physical Health / Rotherham Children's Neuro Development Service

(as a parent/guardian),

My son has waited over 3years- he has now had his assessment and diagnosis yet not heard about medication and told to have an additional appointment will be May next year.

No update how long will be waiting to discuss medication.

I feel people are being let down not being able to access support.

In relation to emotional coping skills group my son enjoyed the group and completed a work book but I think this is a very short piece of work when he’s had to wait so long

Hello,

My name is Caroline and I am the team manager for the Rotherham neurodevelopmental pathway.

Firstly, thank you for sharing your concerns through the care opinion platform and I would like to apologise for the length of time your son has had to wait and understand how frustrating this must be for you and your family. We agree that children and young people are waiting too long to be seen by our services and are working hard to reduce this wait.

I am glad to hear that your son has completed his assessment and diagnosis, and that he found the emotional coping skills group beneficial. Your feedback regarding the duration of the group is appreciated, and we will take this into consideration as we continue to improve our services.

Regarding medication and the next appointment scheduled for May, I understand why you would be feeling let down by this. Please rest assured that we are working hard to prioritise appointments and ensure that each patient receives the necessary support as soon as possible. If you would like, I can look into this further for you - Please can you contact me via rdash.ccg-yourexperience@nhs.net and I can look into this for you.

Thank you for your patience and for advocating on behalf of your son. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly.
