"Excellent Quality of Care"

About: Hamilton Locality Support Service / Care at Home

(as a relative),

My mum was diagnosed with vascular dementia over three years ago. She has lived on her own since my Dad died of cancer twenty years ago. Living in her own home is very important to her as this is where she feels safe and comfortable.

However this would not be possible without the South Lanarkshire Homecare Team who support her.

Mum receives two visits per day from the Team. Initially this was just for medication administration, however mum's condition has deteriorated considerably and the carers now give her breakfast and leave lunch.

The women who care for mum are incredibly kind, caring and professional. I am constantly touched by the depth of their genuine care for Mum. (Special thanks to her core team, Annette, Marie, Debbie & Gemma) I can not speak highly enough of all the care she receives from all the wonderful women who are part of the South Lanarkshire Homecare Team.

Their manager (Karen) is approachable and supportive of myself and my mum, always seeking the best for Mum. Her professionalism guidance and advice has been invaluable, especially at the points where mums ability to look after herself has changed or deteriorated.

We also receive a 6 month assessment visit and this is extremely helpful, again the staff who have visited have been excellent. I feel listened to and supported.

My Mum worked in the public sector all her life, and was herself a kind and caring person with all the young people she dealt with. It is extremely sad to see her deteriorating, her short term memory is now very poor. But beautiful to see her being so well cared for.

I cover everything else for Mum; the shopping, cleaning, looking after her house, bills, hospital visits, hearing aid appointments, opticians, doctor's, physiotherapy appointments, looking after all her other needs. It is just not possible to do everything.

Without this support, I can (just about) manage the rest, and Mum can live in her own home, surrounded by all that is familiar and important to her.

Dear ariesyq33,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about the difference our Homecare Team, here in EK, are making to both you and your Mum. It is genuinely lovely to hear that the "ladies" providing your Mum's care (Annette, Marie, Debbie, Gemma and Karen) have done so professionally, with compassion and kindness, which has clearly made you feel supported and confident that your Mum is being well looked after. I will ensure the Team know about your kind words about the care they provide.

Well done to your Mum for cherishing her independence and hope, between us, we will continue to support her at home for as long as she wishes.

Thanks again,

Nadia
