"They are just superhuman, they really are"

About: Paediatrics / Paediatric Assessment Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

Wow!! What a whirl wind week we had in HDU/Oak Ward in Musgrove, paediatrics.

My son was blue lighted to hospital with suspected severe DKA, a complication with Type 1 Diabetes. We had no idea that he has this condition.

All the staff were just so caring, loving and supportive towards my son and I. They gave me hugs when i needed, pick ups if we needed. It felt like noone else was in the hospital but us and i can't thank the staff there enough. They saved his life and we will forever be grateful.

It was tough learning all about the medicines, Diabetes itself and what it meant for him in life in general. The staff explained everything clearly so we knew what was going on, they never left us wondering. They were able to explain to my son what was happening too, in a way that he would understand and let him make decisions when he was able. My son got fed very well too, when he was up to eating. Nothing was too much trouble.

They are just superhuman, they really are. We couldn't have been looked after better. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

Dear SF12345,

I am Dr Gita and am writing on behalf of our diabetes team to say thankyou so much to you and your son for sharing your story about your care and experience with us.

I am so delighted to hear that you felt held and supported through such a tough unexpected diagnosis for your son and the whole family.

I am one of the diabetes consultants and am so proud to be working with such an amazing diabetes multidisciplinary team. Our team does not under estimate the impact of this diagnosis and experience for you all and I hope you know that our team will always be here to support you in anyway we can. I personally work with all the diabetes team colleagues that you met during your admission (paediatric diabetes specialist nurses, dieticians, diabetes support worker and doctors) and will ensure that your gratitude and experience is shared with them all individually.

Thank you
