"I find the wait time appalling"

About: West Scotland Breast Screening Centre / Diagnostics

(as a service user),

I had my 3yr breast screening appointment at the mobile unit in Cumbernauld last week.  This appointment was overdue by 12wks.  On leaving I was told results would take 6-7 weeks.  I find this wait time appalling.  For those who suffer from Medical Anxiety this is in no way acceptable. The mobile team are both sympathetic & professional.  Sadly the system falls short when awaiting results.  Is this possibly the longest wait time in the country?

Many thanks for taking the time to feedback to us regarding your recent screening appointment.

The West of Scotland Breast Screening Service (WOSBSS) is part of a nationally commissioned programme overseen by National Services Scotland (NSS), over recent years the service has experienced delays for a number of reasons. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and NSS are working closely together to address these delays.

We sincerely apologise that your screening mammogram was delayed by 12 weeks and that the report may take longer than the usual two-week timeframe. WOSBSS remains committed to delivering high-quality clinical care and has implemented measures to balance the timely acquisition of images with the reporting and communication of results to clients.

If you require access to data from another screening centre, please contact National Services Scotland (NSS) directly.
