"The most amazing team"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Oral Surgery & Medicine ( Wards 63) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Pre-Operative Assessment Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Surgical High Dependency Unit (SHDU)

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with mouth cancer and was put into the care of Mr Thomson and Professor Mccaul.  In the lead up to the operation I was introduced to the full team at the pre assessment centre, and what a team they are! Every single one made myself and my daughter feel confident and reassured being in their care and even had some giggles along the way!

The operation went very well and Mr Thomson even called my daughter personally to let her know I was out of surgery. I feel so lucky to have had these unbelievably dedicated, clever yet down to earth surgeons making me better. There are no words to express just how much I appreciate them being able to give me my life back.

After surgery I went to high dependancy where my daughter was waiting for me to arrive from theatre. The nurses who were taking me to high dependancy could see my anxious daughter's face and let her talk to me before I went into the ward as they knew it would take a little time to get me settled in ward.  Its this little attention to detail that makes all the difference to loved ones. The care of the nurses in HDU also was unbelievable, the kindness they showed went a very long way.

After one night in high dependancy I went into the care of the "dream team" at ward 63.  I was in there for three weeks where my daughter visited every single day and cannot fault anything at all, infact quite the opposite we would like to shout our gratitude to them from the rooftops! The one to one care, high levels of hygiene and expertise in this specific area has to be applauded. There are so many names to mention and I would hate to miss anyone out but I can honestly say everyone was awesome and this ward is run to complete perfection. From physio, OT, students, cleaning staff, dietician, nurses and doctors, they all come together to make the most amazing team, a team that we will never forget.

Dear Perfectly pink

Thank you so much for sharing your incredible story and for your kind words about the care you received. We are deeply moved to hear about your journey and truly heartened that you felt so well supported throughout such a challenging time.

We are especially pleased to hear that Mr Thomson, Professor McCaul, and the wider surgical, nursing, and support teams at the pre-assessment centre, High Dependency Unit, and Ward 63 were able to make you and your daughter feel safe, reassured, and cared for at every stage. It is clear that their compassion, skill, and teamwork made a lasting difference to your experience, and your feedback is a wonderful reflection of the dedication our staff bring to their work every day.

Your mention of the "dream team" on Ward 63, and your appreciation of everyone involved – from surgeons and nurses to cleaning staff and physiotherapists – truly means a lot. These small acts of kindness and attention to detail, such as updating loved ones or offering a comforting word, are what we strive for, and we’re so glad they made a difference to you and your family.

We will make sure your words are passed on to all the teams involved in your care. Feedback like this not only boosts morale but reminds us all why we do what we do.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience. We wish you continued strength and good health on your recovery journey.

Kind regards

Kevin
