I was in severe pain, felt very weak from an evening of diarrhoea and vomiting, called an ambulance and after blood results was admitted to surgical observation ward. The staff were welcoming and attentive from the beginning and kept me informed if every step on my journey. I had pancreatitis, when the pain calmed and my temperature came back to normal I had the option of going home and attending the hot clinic or remaining on the ward.
I went home and as promised someone called me to invite me back the next day. My blood results were explained in depth and set up for an imaging appointment.
We normally always hear about the failings of the NHS but my personal journey left me confident that we still have staff who are dedicated and been chosen for roles where their personalities are fitting. I did not at any point feel I did not know what was happening and did not have any lingering for results etc.
A special thanks to these staff. I overheard people in other beds who were shouting and not appreciating the staff or giving them the respect they deserve and sadly this happens too often, not only in hospitals but in shops and other settings.
Keep up the good work.
