"The doctor we saw was amazing"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

During our holiday our daughter had a suspected seizure. After a call from the ambulance crew we were asked if we could take her to hospital ourselves rather than wait for an ambulance- which we were more than happy to do. When we arrived we were triaged very quickly and then moved into the children’s emergency department to wait to see a doctor. There was lots to keep her entertained while we waited. The doctor we saw was amazing, very patient and allowed our daughter to interact with the equipment being used to make her feel safe. As we don’t live locally we left with a plan to be put in place at our home town. We were at the hospital for about 4 hours in total - a very quick time compared to our home town hospital.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience following your visit to our Children’s Emergency Department during your holiday.

We’re so pleased to hear that your daughter was seen quickly and that our team were able to make her feel safe and comfortable throughout her care. It’s wonderful to know that the doctor took the time to explain and involve your daughter in what was happening — helping to make what can be a worrying situation much less frightening.

We’re also glad you found the environment welcoming and well-equipped to keep children occupied while waiting, and that your onward care plan was clearly communicated before you returned home.

Your kind words mean a great deal to our staff, who work hard to ensure every family receives compassionate and efficient care, especially when far from home.

Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback, and we hope your daughter is continuing to do well.

With kind regards,

Tamara Martin Garcia

Emergency Department Sister
