"Children’s A&E and The Plaster room"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Plaster Room

(as a parent/guardian),

My son broke his leg playing football 4 weeks ago. The Emergency Nurse Practitioner in A&E dealing with him had a lovely manner which put both my son and I at ease immediately. I had total confidence in her skills and expertise which enabled me to find the strength to ensure my child felt safe in that moment of vulnerability. Thank you for everything… you were fabulous at your job!! Thank you!

We returned 4 weeks later to fracture clinic for plaster removal prior to X-ray.  He’s a teenager but was anxious about this procedure even though I had explained the process to him.  A member of staff named Ally was a total blessing!  She introduced herself to us and explained everything to him and even had him laughing which is not easy with a teen.  I was so relieved.  She removed his cast, washed his leg with true gentle care. She went above and beyond for us!  We’re so so grateful to her.  Thank you Ally!  Also a mention to the lovely student who brought us through to the plaster room and ensured my son was comfortable too.

When we went along to the X-ray department my son became pale and feint. The young receptionist telephoned for assistance and poured my son a glass of water. Thank you! A nurse attended and took us to a room where my son was able to lie down flat and recover quickly. She kept checking on him.  Thank you.  We know how busy you were. The radiographer came to check on him and took his X-ray to allow him to get back to see the Doctor swiftly.  Thank you. We seen the Doctor and were to attend Orthotics for a boot for my son.  Thank you to the nurse who fitted the boot and took the time to give us contact details for the department should we have any concerns or problems with the boot. The whole experience within the Queen Elizabeth Children’s Hospital from start to finish was exceptional and we thank you all for the wonderful jobs you do.

What a fantastic service you all provide under extreme conditions yet all with genuine concern, pride and a smile.

Thanks again ❤️

Dear membersx76

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience following your son’s recent treatment at the Royal Hospital for Children.

We are truly heartened to read your kind and detailed feedback. It’s clear that this was a worrying time for both you and your son, and we’re so pleased to hear that every member of the team — from the Emergency Nurse Practitioner in A&E to the staff in the Fracture Clinic, X-ray Department, and Orthotics — provided not only expert clinical care, but also the compassion, reassurance, and personal attention that made all the difference.

We are especially glad to hear how much of an impact Ally had during your son’s cast removal. It's wonderful to know she was able to ease his anxiety and bring a bit of humour into the situation — not always an easy task with teenagers, as you said! We’ll make sure she, and the student who supported you, know just how much their kindness meant.

It’s also lovely to hear that the young receptionist, nurse, radiographer, and orthotics staff each played a part in making sure your son felt safe and cared for throughout. Your recognition of their professionalism and genuine concern means so much — especially during such busy times in our services.

Please be assured that we will pass your thanks and appreciation on to all of the individuals and departments involved. Feedback like yours is a true reflection of the dedication our teams bring to their roles every day, and it will be shared widely and with pride.

We wish your son all the very best in his continued recovery, and thank you again for your thoughtful and generous message.

Kind regards

Kevin
