"My experience illustrates the highs and lows of the NHS"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Radiology University Hospital Hairmyres / Vascular Surgery (Ward 8) University Hospital Wishaw / Short Stay Unit

(as the patient),

First of all I want to thank  all the Vascular and Radiology teams for the amazing work performed on my leg. As far as I was concerned, they had performed a miracle.

I also want to thank all of the staff who looked after me whilst I was in hospital.

Unfortunately I had to wait 10 days in the ward  before the angioplasty during which time I lost a lot of strength as was to be expected in my 70s. I was not allowed to wear support stockings so ulcers developed on my foot.

I was discharged from the hospital the day after the procedure with only 2 hours notice and no after care notes despite having asked and I did not see my consultant before I left.

That evening my leg was swollen and painful so I went to Wishaw at 11.30pm where I spent the whole night in the A&E waiting room. After first class treatment by the A&E doctor's I left about 10.00am and staggered to the car park. The ulcers are still extremely painful after 5 weeks and my foot and leg are still swollen. On top of that somewhere along the line I contracted cellulitis and I am now on my third course of antibiotics.

My experience illustrates the highs and lows of the NHS.

Dear Crow's Feet,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

I will share your gratitude with the vascular and radiology team. I am sure the team will be delighted to hear that you feel they performed a miracle.

I am sorry to read that you were poorly afterwards that required you to attend A&E.

I do hope you are recovering well.

Kind regards,

Lisa
