"Trying to get a GP"

About: General practices in Tayside

(as the patient),

They have changed their Patient approach! Trying to get a GP is a disgrace! My Hubby just out of PRI when he went in for a double op. Bladder stone successful. Put on priority Holep op for over enlarged Prostate.

A world renowned surgeon comes every few months and spends a week or two operating in Tayside. The surgeon actually phoned my Husband at home and asked him if he could come to PRI to get Holep Op. Had the op, but in recovery was rushed back for a second op after leaking blood. Husband has lost his appetite and has difficulty swallowing after double anaesthetics in op.

We tried to call 8am onwards at the practice to speak to possibly get a GP. It's always fully booked. How many mornings are we supposed to phone to try to get through?

When in the Surgery to give blood tests, still couldn't speak to a Doctor for advice. You'd think a GP could have shown a bit of interest? In my opinion, they need to get back to the old ways before Covid.

Whereas Hospital Consultants, Doctors, Nursing Staff are first class at Perth Royal Infirmary. They really care and are first class.

My Husband went to PRI Urology to remove his Catheters two weeks after his Holep Laser Surgery on his over-enlarged prostate done by a world- renowned Consultant. My Husband told them about his difficulty in swallowing. The Staff in Urology seemed shocked at his GP giving him Oxybutinin?! They said they don't use it nowadays and to stop it right away. We already informed our Hospital Staff we can't get an appointment with our GP. Where my Husband wanted to discuss his swallowing problem with a GP.

They told us that after a patient survey, they decided on this decision to phone in at 8am to get an appointment, which you can never get. I have been with this practice for 75 years and I wasn't consulted on this survey. The waiting room is always empty. It sounds more like a morgue with very few Doctors! I object to discussing my private medical History with a receptionist. The District Nurses are top notch. Thank God for Hospitals and its first class Staff.

Dear woodpigeoneb57

Thank you for your kind words about staff in Perth Royal Infirmary and for taking the time to share your feedback about your General Practice (GP). Feedback is very valuable to all areas of the NHS, and I am sorry to hear that your experience at your GP has not been positive.

Unfortunately, GP practices are not part of Care Opinion at this time, as each GP Practice is an independent business. So that they can see your feedback, we would recommend that you feedback your experience directly to the practice to allow this to be passed on to the staff. The Practice Manager can give you details of how to provide this feedback to them, as per their Complaints and Feedback Policy.

Kind regards

Susan Anderson
