"Neurosurgical Appointment"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurology (Ward 53 and 67)

(as a relative),

My family and I recently attended an appointment in the QEUH Neurology Department, and I want to commend the staff that we met.

My grandfather unfortunately suffered a fall just before a nervously anticipated neurology appointment, and immediately he was attended to in the car park by a surgical registrar and A&E nurse coming off shift, who both dropped everything to help. He was seen immediately in A&E and we made it to our appointment.

The clerkess on duty on in the Pre-assessment Unit in the Institute of Neurology really went above and beyond to comfort my family whilst we waited for the appointment.

Finally, I want to commend Nathan, the registrar that saw us. His manner and disposition during the entire consultation was calming, confident and comforting. As a medical professional myself, all too often do I see doctors speaking to patients and families in medical jargon in rushed consultations where they feel confused and belittled. However, Nathan took the time to genuinely listen to each of us and explained things to my grandfather in a simple and concise way that was easy to understand. He made us feel heard and that my grandfather was in the safest hands.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making a very scary situation for my family as easy, comfortable and understandable as possible.

Dear Nurseforagrandaughter,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience following your recent visit to the Neurology Department at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. I’m truly sorry to hear about your grandfather’s fall, but I’m very glad to know he received prompt and compassionate care from our staff in A&E and the surgical team.

Your kind words about the clerkess in the Pre-assessment Unit and especially about Nathan, the registrar, are deeply appreciated. It’s incredibly encouraging to hear that Nathan’s approach made such a positive impact on your family during what must have been a very stressful time. I will ensure your feedback is passed on to all the staff involved—they will be delighted to know their efforts made a difference.

As a fellow healthcare professional, your recognition of the importance of clear, empathetic communication means a great deal. Thank you again for your thoughtful message and for acknowledging the dedication of our team.

Wishing your grandfather a smooth and speedy recovery.

Warm regards,

Karen
