I had been diagnosed with myelodysplasia in May of 2024 and after/during my recovery from emergency abdominal surgery which took place in early November 2024 I was again being seen by my consultant haematologist at Clinic P of the New Victoria Hospital in Glasgow.
I had a bone marrow biopsy in May which identified my myelodysplasia has morphed into a Leukaemia.
I was admitted to QEUH as an emergency patient and transferred to Ward 4C (Haematology). I was experiencing fevers and the ward staff kept me comfortable and ran all the antibiotics and other medicines as instructed by the doctors.
Everything about my treatment and any potential changes was always communicated clearly in a way that I could understand, the medical staff (all) have been amazing at ensuring I am aware of every aspect of my treatment.
Thankfully my fevers/infection have reduced and this has allowed my first cycle of treatment to be started.
Again, the nursing care has been exemplary, the ward staff from domestic staff to consultant have all without exception showed a dedication to what they do that is commendable. Please do keep up the fantastic work it is appreciated.
There are many names that I could mention but I will only say that Paulina from catering and Jane, Jen, Ashliegh, Aimee and Louise have made my stay of over 3 months on the ward a bearable one, I also can't forget all of the Health care support workers who had to put up with my many requests, always dealt with satisfactorily.
Wendy, you run a great team!
