"Multiple TIA's"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency North Devon District Hospital / Neurology North Devon District Hospital / Stroke services

(as the patient),

For a while I was feeling very dizzy sick sometimes I had tingling in my mouth down my right side or my left side I kept on going until one day I couldn't get out of bed my head felt like it was going to explode being sick when I moved.

My husband phoned for a ambulance who took me to Barnstaple hospital as I didn't have symptoms of a stroke I put it down to vertigo, A&E drs didn't know what was wrong with me...the day I went to hospital I had a appointment for an MRI scan, they decided to keep me in hospital as they didn't know what was wrong.

Later that evening Dr came to see me & said I had had multiple TIA's apart from weakness in my left side & couldn't walk I didn't expect that news everyone who I saw was & have been brilliant with me I can't fault any care I've received from hospital to physios.

I'm trying to get my head around what's happened I still can't but I'm determined to get over this get back into work I got my car licence back I'm still very nervous of driving but I will get there I just hope I can get my psv licence back.

I would just like to say a massive thank you for all the help & being looked after from everyone involved with me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us.

It’s incredibly heartening to know that from the moment you were brought into A&E, through to your diagnosis and ongoing care, you felt supported and well looked after. We’re very proud of our staff here at [Hospital Name/Barnstaple Hospital] and in our physiotherapy and rehabilitation teams — your kind words mean a great deal to everyone involved in your care.

Experiencing multiple TIAs is understandably a lot to process, and your determination to recover, return to work, and regain your confidence behind the wheel is truly inspiring. Please do continue to take things at your own pace, and don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s any additional support we can offer.

We will ensure your feedback is shared with all the teams involved in your care — it’s incredibly encouraging for them to hear the positive impact they’ve had during such a challenging time.

Wishing you all the very best in your recovery and with your future goals — including your journey toward regaining your PSV licence.
